Two types of scaffolds extensively used include:
System Scaffold
- Strong, versatile and easy to assemble
- Offers various options in ledgers and transoms
- The base must be leveled and plumbed so that each plane remains consistently leveled
- Is limited to certain dimensions
- Should be used in projects where the base surface can safely accommodate the weight as it is made of steel and is quite heavy
- Typically built for larger repetitive jobs, such as internal boilers, digesters, industrial and petrochemical plants, pulp and paper mill vessels, temporary systems, general construction and exterior scaffolds
Tube and Clamp
- Very versatile because there are no dimensional or height limitations
- Material is lightweight and easy to handle
- Has two key components - aluminum tubes and wedge clamps
- Used in confined spaces and for irregular shapes
- Can be adapted to a variety of geometric shapes
- Can be used on the interior and exterior of structures
- May take longer to erect than system scaffolding
- Each lift has to be leveled and plumbed in order to keep the scaffold consistent
